Sources and references
Sources selected for the claim
A reference is useful when it supports the statement a reader is trying to verify. Generators.wiki prioritises primary material: equipment manuals, manufacturer specifications, technical application guides, component documentation, public safety guidance and government publications. Source selection follows the subject, rather than a target number of links.
Manufacturer documentation is valuable for explaining the manufacturer’s own equipment. General technical topics should draw on suitable sources across equipment and component suppliers where available. Public safety material, energy information and standards documentation provide different kinds of evidence; they are not interchangeable with a product brochure.
The publication standard is to use the original document where practical, avoid presenting promotional language as a technical finding and identify when a source covers only one model, product family or operating arrangement.
Following a citation
Numbered citations connect statements in an article to its references. The reference list names the source and links to the material used. Open the underlying document when a detail affects a specification, calculation or installation decision; an article’s summary cannot preserve every condition in a manual.
A citation to a page does not endorse every statement on that page. It also does not make the source applicable to every generator. Check the document title, model, revision, rating conditions and relevant passage. A general explanation of a rating should not be read as the rating of an unspecified machine.
A page’s source-review date records its source check, not the age of all the documents it references. Manuals can be revised, web pages can move and links can break. Reports that identify a replacement document or changed requirement help keep the reference useful.
Standards and uncertain information
When standards or code material is relevant, the edition and applicable context matter. A public summary may explain a concept without reproducing the complete requirement. Do not treat a summary, an isolated quotation or a general article as proof that a particular installation complies.
If a necessary document is inaccessible or a claim cannot be checked from the cited material, the wording should reflect that limit. Conflicting sources should prompt a closer look at model, date and conditions rather than an unsupported universal answer.
Practical links are a separate purpose
Generators.wiki and Backup Generator Guide share ownership. Selected pages link to its calculators and practical guides so readers can take a useful next step. These resource links serve a different purpose from the numbered technical references. Shared ownership is disclosed, and the linked resource does not replace the evidence needed for a technical claim.
